My First Day in School - On September 23 the Liturgy closed with a blessing by Father Alexander, followed by a heartfelt invitation to all to attend the first day of Saint Nicholas School. “Come to the hall, and let us enjoy being a big family together.” A “pot-luck” luncheon was organized by the Sisterhood. The buzz of happy conversation, clinking of spoons and knives on plates, gradually died down and became quiet as if anticipating a school lesson to start. | |
Father Alexander stood up from his table and walked to the stage. He smiled, then told of his dream and plans for our church to develop itself into strong and loving family. The first step we have taken, and that is to organize a loyal, dependable staff to teach and train our children to be faithful Orthodox Christians. Every member of the instructional staff was introduced individually by Father Alexander. In traditional Russian style, young girls and boys presented the staff with beautiful bouquets of flowers. Father Alexander remarked again, that all the talents we have as a family, are God-given, and our Lord depends on us to develop them and employ them to the measure of our faith. “This is the first day of our school. You are invited along with the students and teachers to visit the classrooms. Talk with your teachers, and get to know each other. After you finish visiting, come back to the hall for entertainment. We have our beloved Russian Music Masters—guitar, accordeon and a lovely lady with a beautiful voice. All for our listening pleasure. Enjoy! “ It was the best First Day of School I ever have been to in my life. Really!
